There is a legendary hiking trail through this completely wild and barren countryside. Nearby lies the Skaftafell National Park, on the outskirts of the huge, towering Vatnajökull glacier. Vatnajökull, at 8,100 sq km in size, is Europe's biggest glacier outside of Greenland. The movie Batman begins was filmed here.
