23/06/2010 The Great Outdoor Exhibition: Now Open in Prague!
June 23, 2010 The Wild Wonders of Europe Great Outdoor Exhibition launched in Prague, in the Czech Republic.
Right at the very heart of the European continent, the second Wild Wonders of Europe outdoor exhibition was yesterday launched in the Old town in the classical City of Prague. Right outside the beautiful Rudolfinum classic concert hall and right in front of the statue of the famous Czech composer Antonín Dvořák. Situated on the Jan Palach square, named after one of the fallen heroes from the protests against the Soviet invasion of 1968-1969.
Everything worked with clockwork precision. Trumpeteers and foresters from the deep Czech forests, playing traditional waldhorn tunes performed, and were followed by the drumming ensemble "Jumping Drums" who delivered powerful Afro-Brasilian-European drumbeats. And among the speakers were the Minister of Environment Rut Bízková, the Director of Nature at the European Commission Ladislav Miko, by the Head of the State Environment Committee Václav Mencl, the Director of the Sumava National Park, František Krejčí and the Managing Director of Wild Wonders of Europe, Staffan Widstrand. In the setting sun, the 200 invited guests mingled around the exhibition's 100 huge-format photos, trying food from all the EU countries, natural fruit juices pressed on the spot, salads, barbecued meat, Czech wine and beer and lots of desserts. They were later followed by the maybe 500 passers-by who took the chance of a first visit to the exhibition, right at the riverside of the Vltava river. The exhibition will be on display, free of charge, 24 hours a day from June 22 to August 22, 2010.
