“There are no kangaroos in Austria”, it says on t-shirts at Austrian airports.

Yes, very funny, the Austrians may think. So, what IS there apart from Mozart festivals, downhill skiing and Castle Schoenbrunn? Nature-wise, the “Hohe Tauern National Park” with mountains and glaciers rising to almost 4.000m. Or the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the steppe plains around “Lake Neusiedl” for example.

And a new arrival in the riverine forest of the Danube and the March: White-tailed Sea eagles started breeding again in Austria, decades after they were only known as wintering guests.
