El Retiro Park
Madrid, Spain
From September 25 - 15 December 2012
On 25 September 2012, the sports celebrity, Rafa Nadal together with Secretary of State for the Environment, Federico Ramos de Armas inaugurated the "Wild Wonders of Europe" outdoor exhibition in Madrid.
Located along the Paseo del Duque Fernán Núñez beside El Retiro Park's beautiful rose garden "La curva de la Rosaleda" in the southern part of the park, the exhibition will remain on display until 15 December 2012.
Rafa Nadal founding sponsor of the Fundación Rafa Nadal and Goodwill Ambassador of the United Postcode Lotteries gave the exhibition his resounding support.
Federico Ramos de Armas, Secretary of State for the Environment, at the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment outlined their commitment to increase support for the N2000 network and to work towards securing larger marine protected areas in our seas.
The open air event, attended by dignitaries and leaders from the corporate, academic, diplomatic and conservation world, was staged alongside the life-size images showcasing Europe’s rich natural heritage in all it’s glory.
The exhibition was made possible by our main exhibition partner, the ground-breaking initiative, Rewilding Europe together with The United Postcode Lotteries, The City Council of Madrid, The Felix Rodriguez de la Fuente Foundation, Fundación Naturaleza y Hombre, Philips, WWF Spain and The World Wilderness Congress, Wild 10. A special selection of 4 images from Rewilding Europe's rewilding area in Western Iberia will be on display where you can learn about the exciting work that they are doing.
This year's crucially important UN theme is Marine Biodiversity. In line with that, the exhibition contains many fabulous marine images by some of Europe's leading underwater photographers. (look out for our book "Wild Waters of Europe" to be published later in the year too!). The exhibition also features no less than 10% of its 100 images from Spain, confirmation that this southern European country is truly blessed with a rich natural heritage of which they can be justly proud.
The exhibition is open all day, with free admission to all!
